Govt Revokes Wangchuk's NSA Detention, Sparking Political Reactions
Climate activist Sonam Wangchuk has been released from prison after the Central Government revoked his detention under the National Security Act (NSA). His detention in Rajasthan's Jodhpur jail followed violent protests in Leh last September. The Centre described the revocation as a step to facilitate a meaningful dialogue. The release comes just days before the Supreme Court was scheduled to hear a plea filed by Wangchuk's wife challenging his detention. The move has drawn strong reactions from political leaders. AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwel stated the case mirrors the treatment of his own party's leadership in the Delhi liquor scam, alleging they were jailed for 'months and years' on fabricated charges. Kejriwel and other opposition figures have welcomed Wangchuk's release, with many claiming he was 'arrested without any evidence' and that the government's action has left it 'exposed.'

Underground Gases and Climate Swings Linked to Ancient Mass Extinctions
Scientists propose that volatile gases emanating from deep within the earth could be responsible for extreme climate shifts leading to ancient mass extinctions. This theory draws parallels between geological upheaval and major biological crises spanning hundreds of millions of years. Furthermore, research exploring gas shales has revealed unique ecosystems, including rock-eating fungi and tardigrades, suggesting that life continues to adapt in extreme environments. These findings underscore the deep connection between planetary geochemistry, climate stability, and biodiversity.
