State Auditor Finds Excessive Spending and Poor Climate in Cary
The North Carolina Office of the State Auditor released an investigative report into the Town of Cary, finding evidence of questionable spending and a culture characterized by 'extravagant spending of taxpayer dollars.' State Auditor Dave Boliek stated that the town cooperated fully with the review and is committed to addressing the financial practices. This probe, which also highlighted weaknesses in financial oversight and an 'intimidating' work environment, has drawn attention from multiple parties. The findings have been reviewed by the Cary Town Council, and the District Attorney's office is also reviewing the report, flagging the same issues regarding Cary's finances and management.
