Falling Tree Kills Three, Including Infant, at German Easter Egg Hunt
Three people, including a 10-month-old infant, were killed Sunday when high winds toppled a 100-foot tree onto a group participating in an Easter egg hunt in Satrupholm, northern Germany. The victims have been identified as a 21-year-old woman, her 10-month-old daughter, and a 16-year-old girl. A fourth victim, an 18-year-old woman, sustained serious injuries and was airlifted to a hospital for treatment. The tragic incident occurred around 11 a.m. during an event organized for approximately 50 residents and caregivers from a nearby residential facility that supports new mothers, pregnant women, and children. Images from the scene, published by German outlet Bild, showed Easter eggs scattered on the ground amidst the chaos, a poignant reminder of the celebratory event that turned to tragedy. The area had been under an official high winds warning from the German weather service at the time. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine if the tree had any pre-existing damage or disease that may have contributed to the accident. Local officials from the Schleswig-Holstein region, including Governor Daniel Günther, expressed they were 'deeply shaken' by the event, offering their thoughts to the families of the victims and all those who witnessed the tragedy. Police and crisis counselors were on site to provide support, with officials praising the emergency responders who did 'everything humanly possible' to help.
