Teen Kills 9 in Turkey's Second School Shooting in Two Days
A 14-year-old student opened fire at a middle school in the south-central Turkish province of Kahramanmaras on Wednesday, killing nine people and wounding 13 others. According to the interior minister, the victims included eight students and one teacher, marking the country's second devastating school shooting in as many days. The attack, which targeted two classrooms, sent panicked parents rushing to the scene as captured in footage from local news agencies. Police subsequently detained the shooter's father, Ugur Mersinli, for questioning as part of the investigation. The assailant, an eighth-grade student, was also killed during the incident. The shooting occurred just one day after a separate incident at a high school in southeastern Turkey, where a former student wounded 16 people before taking his own life. The back-to-back tragedies have shocked the nation and ignited a urgent debate over gun violence and school safety in Turkey.
