However, the tsunami alert was lifted approximately three hours after the initial quake, with authorities confirming there was no threat to more distant coastal areas. Indonesian officials reported that a 70-year-old woman in North Sulawesi died after being crushed by building debris. Another individual sustained a broken leg after jumping from a building in panic. The earthquake, which caused strong shaking lasting 10-20 seconds in coastal cities including Bitung and Ternate, highlights Indonesia's vulnerability to seismic activity due to its position on major geological faults.
