Iranian State Media Confirms Supreme Leader Khamenei Killed in Strikes
Iranian state media officially confirmed on Sunday that Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed during a series of US-Israeli airstrikes that began on Saturday. The confirmation came hours after former President Donald Trump announced the ayatollah's death in interviews with NBC and ABC News, stating that 'we feel' the reports were 'correct'. Khamenei, 86, who had led the Islamic Republic since 1989, had not been heard from since the strikes commenced. Satellite imagery indicated that Khamenei's secure compound in Tehran was heavily damaged in the initial barrage of missile strikes. The lack of communication from the Supreme Leader following the attack had fueled speculation about his fate, which was subsequently confirmed by multiple outlets including Iran International and state-run media. The attacks have significantly widened the ongoing conflict in the region. The death of Iran's paramount leader has triggered international reactions and public mourning. Images emerged of Shiite Muslims holding special prayers to mourn Khamenei in locations such as Jammu, India, highlighting the global impact of the event. The situation marks a pivotal and dangerous escalation in hostilities between Iran and the US-Israeli alliance.
