FIFA Maintains 'Pride Match' Designation for Iran-Egypt World Cup Game in Seattle
FIFA has denied requests from Iran and Egypt to prohibit rainbow flags and LGBTQ+ symbols during their World Cup matchup in Seattle this Friday. The game, designated as the first-ever "Pride Match," is expected to see a significant presence of rainbow flags as local organizers highlight the city's commitment to inclusivity. Both nations have formally objected to the designation, and anti-LGBTQ+ activists have launched a petition calling for the removal of the Pride label. Despite these pressures, FIFA maintains that rainbow symbols are permitted in venues, setting the stage for a high-stakes clash between the competing teams and the tournament's inclusivity policies.
