Mumbai Hosts Inaugural Climate Week, Uniting Global Leaders for Action
Mumbai is set to host the inaugural Mumbai Climate Week (MCW) from February 17-19, 2026, positioning the city as a global hub for climate dialogue and action from the Global South. The event, an initiative of Project Mumbai and supported by the Government of Maharashtra, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), and the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), aims to translate climate discussions into tangible solutions. It will convene over 400 speakers, including international figures like Bill Gates and Hillary Clinton, alongside Indian icons such as cricketer Sachin Tendulkar and cosmonauts Rakesh Sharma and Shubhanshu Shukla. The week features a main global dialogue at the Jio World Convention Centre, complemented by a series of 'spoke events' across the city highlighting diverse climate issues. These include a Cinema & Climate Showcase featuring the documentary 'Turtle Walker,' a discussion on food security titled 'Edible Futures,' and a civic gathering at the Museum of Solutions focused on grassroots waste management strategies. A top UN official has also emphasized the urgent need for nature-based cooling and climate-smart construction in Mumbai to combat rising heat. The event is designed to make Mumbai a 'living testbed' for scalable climate solutions, bringing together world leaders, businesses, innovators, and youth. By uniting high-level diplomacy with community-driven initiatives, Mumbai Climate Week 2026 aims to drive climate action from dialogue to delivery, showcasing India's resolve to lead on climate issues from the city level to the global stage.
