OpenAI has officially launched GPT-5.4, heralding it as a major advancement toward creating autonomous AI agents. The company describes the model as its 'most capable and efficient frontier model for professional work,' unifying significant improvements in reasoning, coding, and agentic workflows. This new iteration is designed to automate complex tasks and interact directly with computers, moving beyond simple text generation to performing actions within software environments, a capability highlighted by several reports. Key improvements in GPT-5.4 include superior factual accuracy, faster response times, enhanced research abilities, and stronger context retention compared to its predecessor, GPT-5.2. OpenAI claims the model sets a new state-of-the-art, with one benchmark (GDPval) showing it matches or exceeds the performance of industry professionals in 83% of comparisons across 44 occupations, a substantial jump from the 70.9% achieved by GPT-5.2.
