US Fighter Jet Downed Over Iran; One Crew Rescued, One Missing
A U.S. F-15E Strike Eagle fighter jet was shot down over Iran on Friday, triggering a complex search and rescue operation amid the ongoing regional conflict. U.S. forces successfully rescued one crew member, identified as the pilot, from the crash site. However, a second crew member, the weapon systems officer, remains missing as the search continues with what Iranian media describes as "full force. Conflicting reports have emerged from Iranian state media regarding the status of the missing airman. Initial claims suggested the individual had likely died, but this was later contradicted by a report from Iran's Tasnim news agency, which stated the pilot had been taken into custody. U.S. officials and other news sources have not verified this claim, and the service member's status is officially listed as missing. The incident occurred during a period of heightened military engagement. A separate U.S. Air Force A-10 Warthog attack plane also crashed in the Persian Gulf region on the same day, though its lone pilot was safely rescued. The downing of the F-15 follows earlier friendly-fire incidents, including one where Kuwait accidentally shot down three U.S. jets. President Donald Trump has made his first public remarks addressing the incident.
