UN Experts and Lawyer Warn of Critical Condition of Detained Gaza Doctor
Lawyers and family members report that Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya, the former director of Kamal Adwan Hospital in northern Gaza, is in critical condition after 18 months of Israeli detention. His son, Elyas Abu Safiya, states that the physician can barely breathe or speak, while legal representatives claim he has been subjected to abuse and systematic elimination. United Nations experts have urged Israel to release the doctor immediately, citing reports of severe torture. This follows a recent Israeli Supreme Court decision to reject his appeal, a move critics describe as a moral and legal failure. Dr. Abu Safiya previously gained prominence for leading his hospital through an 85-day military siege during the Israel-Hamas war.
