Russia Launches Massive Aerial Barrage on Ukraine Using Oreshnik Hypersonic Missile
Russia conducted one of its largest aerial assaults of the war, striking Kyiv and eight Ukrainian regions with a massive barrage of 600 drones and 90 missiles. The attack included the use of the Oreshnik intermediate-range hypersonic ballistic missile, which reportedly travels over ten times the speed of sound. At least four people were killed and dozens injured, with significant damage reported in Kyiv's Podilsky and Shevchenkivsky districts. World leaders, including French President Emmanuel Macron and EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas, condemned the use of the nuclear-capable weapon as a reckless escalation. The Russian defense ministry claimed the strikes targeted military command facilities and airbases in retaliation for Ukrainian attacks on civilian targets inside Russia.
