Kim Jong Un Oversees Weapons Tests Aboard New Naval Destroyer
North Korean leader Kim Jong Un supervised a series of weapons tests aboard the Kang Kon, a new 5,000-ton naval destroyer. The exercises included the firing of a strategic, nuclear-capable cruise missile, as well as trials of the vessel's main guns, automatic cannons, and electronic warfare systems. After observing the tests from shore, Kim ordered officials to finalize the ship's trials and place the vessel into active service. The tests mark a significant step in Pyongyang's effort to build a nuclear-armed navy. The Kang Kon had previously undergone repairs after being damaged during a failed launch ceremony last year. Recent evaluations also focused on the ship's target-detection, information-processing capabilities, and integrated firepower systems to ensure rapid naval deployment.
