Ukrainian Drones Strike Key Russian Oil Terminal, Sparking Massive Blaze
Ukrainian forces conducted a significant drone strike on the Sheskharis oil terminal at the port of Novorossiysk on the evening of April 5, igniting a massive blaze and triggering explosions heard across the city. The attack, which was confirmed by Ukrainian sources defying international calls to ease such operations, targeted a facility vital for Russian and Kazakh oil exports to Europe and Asia via the Caspian Pipeline Consortium. Eyewitness footage and online channels showed a large fireball illuminating the Black Sea coastline, with shockwaves reported across the surrounding area. Novorossiysk Mayor Andrey Kravchenko had earlier confirmed a massive drone attack and declared an air alert. The terminal is operated by the Russian state-owned company Transneft. The strike also resulted in collateral damage, with debris from downed unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) reportedly hitting an apartment building in the city. The attack on Novorossiysk, which also serves as a base for Russia's Black Sea Fleet, represents one of the most significant assaults on Moscow's energy infrastructure in recent months, occurring concurrently with President Zelenskyy's tour of the Middle East.
