Xi Jinping Visits North Korea to Strengthen Strategic Ties with Kim Jong Un
President Xi Jinping and his wife, Peng Liyuan, have arrived in Pyongyang for a two-day summit with Kim Jong Un. The visit marks Xi's first trip to the country in nearly seven years and is intended to reassert China's role as North Korea's most critical economic and strategic partner through a pledge of deepened cooperation. This diplomatic push comes as Pyongyang has consolidated ties with Russia, reportedly providing troops and ammunition for the war in Ukraine in exchange for food and financial aid. Analysts suggest this shift toward Moscow may have made North Korea less reliant on Beijing, prompting Xi's effort to revitalize the junior ally's loyalty.
