FIFA permits rainbow flags at Egypt‑Iran World Cup match in Seattle
FIFA confirmed that supporters will be allowed to bring and display rainbow and pride flags during the Egypt‑Iran World Cup group match at Seattle's Lumen Field, a game scheduled over the city’s Pride weekend. The decision came after Iran and Egypt formally requested a ban, citing their domestic laws against LGBTQ+ expression. Organisers have dubbed the fixture the “Pride Match,” highlighting the clash between the tournament’s global reach and local human‑rights debates. While the ruling satisfies LGBTQ+ advocates and Seattle’s Pride organizers, critics argue it puts players from the two nations in a politically charged environment.
